Michele Varian has a clear niche. Her store is a jewel box of brightly colored fabrics (silk, ultra-suede, velvet, muslin...) wrapped around pillows, throws, cushions and bedspreads...

The style range is broad, and both downtown and uptown types would be comfortable here. Prices run from $85 to around $200 for most pillows, and she also carries handbags, jewelry, furniture and lighting, and other beautiful miscellaneous objects and gifts.

If you are looking for pillows or accessories for a couch or bed -- something that will highlight and not fade away -- Michele Varian should be on your list. On the other hand, if you don't like color and/or prefer your pillows to be modern and understated, stay away.
