We've long been fans of Michelle Kaufmann, so we're excited to see her new line of prefab homes. The Zero Series—including Ridge0, Vista0, and Contours0—are designed to be net-zero homes, producing only as much energy as they need. All three homes utilize strategically placed windows, glass doors and skylights to maximize natural ventilation and sculpt in natural light.

The Ridge0 house in particular is designed using the Passivhaus principles of good insulation, southern orientation with shading, efficient windows and frames, air-tight building envelope, ENERGY STAR appliances and lighting, and passive preheating of fresh air, all resulting in a low demand for space heating and cooling.

The homes are also designed to incorporate rain catchment and gray water systems. Sizes range from 422sf and 2643sf, and costs begin at $66,500.
