Your Favorite Thing About Your Outdoor Space: There's a lot of favorite things about my space. I love my garden that allows me to have herbs I cook with and flowers. I also love my vintage buoys purchased from an antique shop in Newport RI. They made for a great accent to spark up the otherwise cold concrete wall. And I love having the opportunity to entertain and host parties with friends and family. When it comes down to it, I feel very fortunate to have such an amazing retreat in a city where rooftop apartments are hard to come by.
Biggest Design Challenge With This Space
: Because I love spending as much time outdoors as possible, I wanted to make my rooftop a multi-purpose room, so it was fitting to host evening dinner parties, but also a space for lounging around catching sun in the afternoons. Although the space is small, I was able to fit a great Ikea patio table on one side, and two rope back lounge chairs and an ottoman on the other side. That way there's a space for every part of the day.
Tips for Creating a Great Small Outdoor Space: I think the two most important things you need are seating arrangements that take up the least amount of space but accommodate for the most people possible still keeping it comfortable, and secondly having greenery. Especially in a city that has so much concrete, it's nice to have plants in the mix.
Thanks, Michelle, and good luck!
