4 Pocket Friendly Micro Video Cameras

Compact video cameras no longer mean bare bone features or budget resolution; many now even capture HD or even 3D video in slim form factors. Yes, smartphone video cameras are improving each year, but dedicated compact video shooters still have a leg up in image quality and features still yet. Here are a few we think still distance themselves from phone cams for pocket portability...

Panasonic HM-TA20
The Panasonic is a waterproof, touch pocket cam rated for up to 3 meters underwater. It's designed to be dirt and drop durable, making this Panny a great backpack accessory for capturing your next adventure. A 4.1" CMOS sensor capable of 1080p video at 30 fps is inside, and footage can be enjoyed afterward directly on your TV via HDMI output or on the 3" touch screen. One notable negative is there's no built-in internal storage, so you'll need to add your own SD card. But a bonus is this unit comes with it's only micro-tripod for stable footage.

Sony Bloggie 3D MHS-FS3
The Bloggie's name says it all, aimed at the online video-casting crowd. Wondering what those 2 lenses are for? 3D my friend! This portable vid cam not only does 3D, but also in full 1080p at 30 fps, whether in 2 dimensions or +1. From our preview, the 3D footage looks very realistic with lots of depth (perhaps not so much on the 2.4" screen, but you won't need 3D glasses to review).

JVC Picsio GC-WP10
The Piscio is waterproof to 3 meters, equipped for full HD recording and sports a 3" touchscreen. The only downside to recording 1080p on this camera is the so-so 25 fps, but recording at 720p will bring that back up to 50 fps, so you'll have to figure out if the tradeoff is worth it. As the other cams above, there a HDMI output for direct TV viewing.

Kodak Playsport ZX5
The Playsport offers one touch recording, is dust proof, waterproof and is rated for "oops" moments up to 5 meter drops! Another video camera ideal for the outdoor enthusiast. A very bright green color case makes it easy to find with all the black gear inside your backpack. Other specs include 1080p resolution at 30 fps, with HDMI output, and128 MB of internal storage to start you off with before you add a much needed SD card.
