As in life, so it is in homes, that some of the most creative solutions and spaces come from challenges. How do you make an awkward space feel perfectly balanced? Our friends at Form shared their photos of the main living spaces - living room, dining room, den -- of a home they recently helped update that was as intricate to put together as a large-sized jigsaw puzzle. The result is simple and clean. You'd never know this home had so many challenges. From the bizarre layout to a surprisingly slender living room that had a fireplace (but no walls opposite it on which to put a sofa) to a directive by the owner not to use any yellow, a home full of very sick cats, floors and ceilings that did not complement each other; a dining room and a living room separated by an awkwardly shaped kitchen that jutted into the space and a wish for a living room that had enough seating so everyone could pile in to watch the game, these were some of the challenges they faced here.
Some of their solutions included: using photos by the same photographer in both the dining and living areas to tie the two rooms together; designing a free-standing sofa that could accommodate a good sized hodge-podge gathering of people and cats (and covering it in microsuede in case there were an cat accidents) and putting together two wagon wheels and a piece of glass to make a coffee table.
