What is the advantage of SMALL? Moving to a studio from a spacious 3 bedroom brownstone (minus the roommates) I initially considered this apartment a compromise. Five years later, I cannot imagine living anywhere else. Without being precious, everything here is special to me. But the best part? The heart of downtown (my "rec room") is just a 29 story elevator ride away!

What's your favorite resource for your home?

Luck! All furniture- with exception of the white porcelain stools and the bookshelf -was found in thrift shops and the occasional alley. Even though the cost of reupholstering can be substantial I really enjoy personalizing my treasures.

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home?

The architecture!...which only Bertrand Goldberg can take credit for. The space being "pie" shaped, opens up towards the perimeter balcony and light of the plan, while storage and the bathroom is kept near the core. As unpractical as the angles are for a furniture layout, by moving everything against the walls the space still feels open and airy.
