I've seen yellow and teal before and loved it. I knew I had the duvet in a closet and my little girl was growing up and tired of her pink and green room. The duvet had some of the green in it, so the green pieces that I already had in the room would still work fine. I painted over the painstainkingly previously done room and stenciled the yellow design you see. It was my daughters idea to put in some teal spots on the wall which I think is great!
Color Inspiration continued:
I had to keep some of the pink items (like the bears on the dresser since they are sentimental from MY childhood) but other items fit in perfectly like the cat on the bookshelf that my mother made and the bunting, poms and crown from her last birthday. My next project is a tulle purple bed skirt and her initial out of buttons on the head board, which is actually tan, but I made a slip cover from and Ikea bed sheet and some piping from quilting material.
Tip for Using Color:
We went mainly with yellow since it is her favorite color. I also wanted something that she'll (hopefully) like for awhile. But I love to paint, so if she changes her mind in 3-5 years that is ok with me! I think the best tip is to go with something you both can live with and then find other items you have that coordinate with that main color and pick another color from those items. I don't mind that not everything in the room is yellow, teal and purple. Face it, they are kids, they are going to choose to have other things in their rooms that don't match that particular color scheme! Sometimes you have to let go a bit.
Yellow, teal and purple.
Thanks for your colorful entry Debra and good luck!
