Location: Shawnee, OK
We started a garden space from scratch this spring, hoping to create both a functional garden and a place the kiddos could enjoy while we tended to it. We've made it kid friendly by building a "fort" for them to play under and we're growing vines up it to provide shade.
We've also incorporated some of their favorite Sesame Street characters in to teach about the various plants. It gets major giggles and "ooooo's" from our 1-year-old, Ella.
We're in this space every morning and night. Miles asks frequently, "Can we go out and play in da garden? Let's go check on da garden!" It's truly become our outdoor destination for digging, playing in the water, reading and even "shopping"! In fact, Ella's learning to walk behind the tiny shopping cart we fill with produce each day.
We look forward to expanding the area next spring and coming up with even more ways for the kids to enjoy the gardening experience. They're learning so much while they play!
Thanks Miles and Ella!

White Enamel Four-P...
Wow, to have such a beautiful garden with produce ready to harvest before the Solstice?! Only in my dreams in northern Michigan...
Thanks for the ride into the future! Cheers.
Gorgeous garden and cute lil gardeners! What a great experience for them.
Wow, that IS a gorgeous garden, and I love the idea of the fort for them! We've been talking about building one of those for our tomatoes in order to do away with the cages--I never even thought about the side benefit of a fort!
I want to see more pics of the backyard and garden!!! Is there a flickr?
Awesome. Yes, more pics, please!
Thanks for such nice comments. I have a few more pics of the kids playing on flickr...

So much fun!!
I recently stumbled upon Faith's blog via Design Sponge and I just adore her cute family and their wonderful little garden. I also got a kick out of Miles' refusal to potty train. It brought a little light to my otherwise dreary work week.
I just checked out the flickr pics: cute cute kiddos and what a GREAT idea to make a fort with vines! And I'm glad to know my one year old isn't the only one who has been known to eat a little dirt in the garden. :) Our garden is only about 10x10, but we expand a little every year; next year: VINE FORT!
