Military equipment is designed to be as utilitarian, heavy-duty, and as minimal as possible, for optimal effectiveness with the lowest weight. This low-drag, high-speed approach means the equipment is built to last. Here are a few military inspired gadgets designed with this same philosophy in mind.

Sanction Rucksack
$179 will buy you a compact and weatherproof rucksack designed to hold all your daily essentials. This backpack is built to last a lifetime with military-spec construction. The made in the USA rucksack features multiple weatherproof compartments, urethane coated zippers, waterproof materials and an internal frame sheet. The very large laptop pocket accommodates a 15" laptop for all your "tactical" on the go computer needs.
A-Box, Tactical Boombox
Thodio's A-Box is a real 1950's ammo box converted into iPod boombox. No crappy plastic cases painted with camouflage here, these are real deal, vintage ammo boxes made from 1mm steel plates and fortified from the inside with 6mm Trespa (an impact resistant laminate often used in luggage), each of which supposedly came straight from the military. Each model gets a battery indicator LEDs in the bass tube, the indicator changes from white to orange to red, depending on how much power you have remaining.
Surefire Saint Minimus Headlamp
The Saint Minimus from Surefire is a highly-refined lightweight headlamp that provides a crisp, variable-powered beam of light. Like all of SureFire's great tools, the Miniimus is designed to work hard and last a long time. The housing is crafted from a lightweight yet durable aluminum alloy, and the LED module is virtually indestructible, with a fully adjustable headband which can be worn on the head or fitted to a helmet. A washable Breath-O-Prene pad wicks away moisture while providing cushioning and comfort. It's not just for outdoor use, as we like using our headlamp for household projects where we need a little extra light (e.g. under the sink, peeking into drywall, etc).
Jabra BT3030 Bluetooth Stereo Headset
Styled like a dog tag, the 3030 offers integrated music and call controls, a built-in mic, and the ability to connect to a phone and MP3 player simultaneously. The best feature? It can be used with virtually any set of earphones, giving you wireless convenience anywhere the urban battle takes you.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I recently bought the Jabra BT3030 and the sound quality is absolutely terrible. I've owned several lanyard style bluetooth headsets over the years and the Jabra is the worst of the bunch.
Definitely style over substance.
