For many people, city living means a lack of personal outdoor space, which is one reason why public parks are so important. In Chicago, we're lucky to have a number of well-cared-for parks. One of them - Millennium Park - boasts the world's largest green roof. Built over a rail yard, the park itself is one big, long-span roof covered in plazas, gardens and grasses...
We think Millennium Park is a great example of landscaping that responds to the city architecturally while creating an oasis of green space on Michigan Avenue. Well-loved by Chicago residents and visitors, the park is always full of people. A few photos from our recent visit:

I wouldn't call it "landscaping." Some of the most prominent landscape architects in the world have contributed to Millennium Park.
Yay. I work across the street from Millennium Park but only recently thought about spending my lunch break there. I sat for about twenty minutes in the sun, with my feet hanging in the fountain in the Lurie Garden today. It was peaceful and definitely a good way of recharging midway through the work day.
Does anyone know what the purple flower/grasses are in the very first picture?
This makes me miss Chicago something fierce. *sigh*

That's either a Sanguisorba menziesii or a Sanguisorba canadensis (common name - burnet).
i love Millennium Park. Proposed to my wife next to the cloud gate / bean. In the photo of it above, right around where those 2 people are standing really close to it on the left side.
