- What do you love about your bedroom?:
- I love that I took the opportunity to allow the space to evolve over time to what it is today. My room has had many incarnations before this point, but none felt right. My goal ultimately was to create a warm, comfortable, luxurious and layered space that would be my refuge from the urban chaos outside my doors. I've incorporated items that really provide a sense of calm to me; family photos, mementos of cultural significance, souvenirs-things that put a smile on my face every time I enter the room... I have to admit a fabulous mattress and amazing bed linens don't hurt either.
- What are your tips for creating a beautiful, healthy and organized bedroom?
- No matter the size, a bedroom is at its best when it's clean and organized. My space is small, so it can easily become cluttered. The key is to have a place for everything(small boxes and bowls work well), always put things back/away after use, utilize under bed storage and keep non-essential items out of the room in the first place.
- In modern homes, bedrooms have become more than just a place to sleep; they can be a retreat, a home office, a library, a relaxation zone. What are some ways you make the most of your bedroom?
- I felt it was necessary to make my bedroom a true sanctuary of rest and relaxation. For this reason (and the lack of square footage), there isn't much multi-purpose functionality incorporate into the space. I will sometimes read or bring my tablet to bed, but besides that my room is a space for unadulterated respite, repose and nothingness...Just the way I like it.

It's beautiful lovely cozy... but AT, really, can a room be really luxurious if one of the sleepers has to jump over the other to go in or out bed? Ou that's the reason why it's luxurious?
The rich hues and mixture of patterns is exceptional. What a great showcase of amazing design for a small space!
A very elegant little space - I like!
I really like this room. I love the muted colors. And although small, it manages to look clean and uncluttered without looking stark. Very nice!
@mardete, I could be mistaken, but I assume it's the bedroom of a single person.
Kudos on your room esp with being such a small space. Love!
Though I may sound like I am generalizing too much, all these nykers seem to have amazing taste, despite the small sizes..!! Love your room!
Great job on a small space.
Where did you get that painting?
You did a great job utilizing this small space, while also making it look elegant!
This is SO CUTE. Great job! It looks so worldy and comfortable, without looking like a Pier One commercial. Obsessed!
Love this! So stylish & chic. You must be a designer.
tres chic!!! love it!
Nice.
This is the first bedroom that has motivated me to vote. So lovely and elegant!!!
where did you purchase that side table?
I love everything here! ...excpet for the print above the bed. Everything else is perfection!
Wow, what a surprise! I was just taking a break from work and scanning AT when I saw my that my room had been selected...very happy. Thank you all for the positive comments.
@mardete sadly there is no one jumping over me to get to the other side of the bed;)
@Hello Kitty I did the painting myself.
@caro5703 The table is Global Views gifted from a friend. I believe they still have similar tables.
Love this room! As someone who also has to have her double bed in a corner for space reasons, may I ask how you make your bed every day?!! When I had a bedroom where I could walk around the bed, it was made every day. Now, I have to yank the bed out from the corner to make the bed which is such a pain so it just does not get made daily.
Love this! Favorited :-)
Very LUX! Love it!
The measure of a well decorated space is your eyes are allowed to stay in one place, admire, and move to the next area. This room, albeit a small space, lives so large. There are so many things to intrigue. It's warm, inviting, but most of all intelligent . Well Done!!!
You have a fantastic eye for color and texture. Looks so lux. I think the open night stand is such a smart choice too to give a feeling of more space in the room.
My very favorite!.... I have only "favored" one other so far (why do people say "favorited" when there is already a verb for this???!!!!)
@alahoop, i think you're right, but the lack of accessibily of the bed side it's for me a criterium for luxury. And i'm a single person, and I would like to have a two-sided bed - mine is kind of monastical
Luscious, lovely space. I particularly like the yellow and blue throw or spread at the bottom of the bed.
Love the bedding and the wallpaper
Exquisite!!
@abala the pattern on the wall is actually a stencil. It was a 2-step process and almost the death of me to apply ;)
Nice!!!
This is beautiful. I love the long pillow and the blanket at the foot of the bed. Can you tell me where they are from?
Thanks!
Thanks Maria! The ikat fabric is from eBay. I had my dry cleaner make it into a pillow.
the kantha throw is also from eBay...they're a bit of a new obsession for me.
p.s. I love your room as well. The drapery fabric is beautiful.
Amazingly gorgeous and sophisticated.
Aside from looking kind of cramped (NYC, whattayagonnado) the bed + bedding + painting + sconces + bench situation is stunning. Going in my inspiration folder for sure.
Great use of colors!
I really covet those lamps, which means they're probably a vintage find. Just lovely!
Minetta-
Could you provide the colors you used for your stencil? I LOVE your room and it's exactly the kind of colour scheme I'm looking to use in my living room.
This is really beautiful, Minetta.
Thanks Minetta! I'm off to search eBay now
I think this is lovely, Minetta. Would you share the actual dimensions of your room?
Hey, AT commenters, "small" isn't a valid criticism - small rooms are a fact of life in NYC and in Europe! It's what you make of them that counts.
I signed up for AT just to vote for this room - it oozes "professional job" -- in the best way possible. So many skillful choices going on here. It reminds me very much of an elegant and cozy room I stayed in at one of my favorite London boutique hotels in Knightsbridge. That's as big a compliment as I can give because I still can't get that room out of my mind. Well done!
i love the layers of interest, colors, all of it except the painting over the bed. Although it might work elsewhere in the house, I think the room would look really great with just nothing up there. A little breathing room makes all the other interesting things pop even more.
Please share where your quilt is from!
I LOVE your room. Absolutely beautiful.
I love the painting above the bed. I think it's a great contrasting note in the room.
Brittany the quilt is from eBay. It's a kantha quilt made from old saris pieced together. It actually has about 6 different patterns on both sides. I've fallen in love w/them. You can usually find them on Etsy as well.
Thanks LollyPup. The stencil was quite the undertaking…one I won’t soon be repeating.
The base color is Behr Creek Bend which I mixed with an ivory whose name I don’t remember. The stencil color is a mix of several latex craft paints-gold being the dominant color. After the stencil was completed, I then went back and traced over it w/a silver paint pen to better define the edges.
This was my 1st and most likely last attempt at stenciling. I love it, but absolutely underestimated the effort and overestimated my patience;)
Absolutely love this. My layout is nearly the same - which is challenging to work with! Curious: Where are the sconces from? And the cowhide bench? Well done, Minetta!
Thank you. The sconces are House of Troy, which I found on eBay for a fraction of the retail price.
very nice, very 'luxe' =)
I am loving this cozy and elegant space.
This looks amazing!!!!!!! I love the wallpaper!! Absolutely Gorg!!
I LOVE what she's done with such a small space. I really love it. It has the feel of a big room, in a small space, well done!
Oh my goodness. I love this room. The color scheme is gorgeous! There are so many accent pieces I want! Well done!
Diane
Wonderful. Sophisticated. A perfect retreat.
totally magazine worthy! an amazing job, makes me want to redo my room
A really gorgeous and well thought-through (and executed!) room.
Congratulations to you and may you take the bedroom cake!
Courtney
(and I love the feather pompom : ))
You had a small room and you made everything fit! I like what's hanging from the ceiling although I can't see all of it, I do like what I can see...
Super tiny room, but grand on the style scale...has my vote! Love your editing and your items on the dresser; all so elegant and lovely!
Elegant and inviting, but the practical Virgoan side of me wonders along with some others: How do you make the bed? Even when you pull it away from the wall, there is precious little space between the end of the bed and the dresser shown. I have a twin bed in the guest room which has to be placed along the wall and I confess I just sort of fling the covers on and half-tuck them on the wall side. and I can do that by standing on the floor - with a double you'd have to be ON the bed to tuck in the far side. But I love the colors and the coziness. I can understand a philosophy that values style and appearance over "practicality", which can be boring. You just have to want to take that trouble.
Absolutely beautiful - my favorite for sure! Can you tell me me where you got your shams with the gold trim? What do the pillows look like behind them? I am wanting to do a similar look and I love the Serena & Lily and Dwell Studio styles but they are so, so pricey. Thank you!!
Thanks Megan!! The bedding is a basic cotton set from overstock.com. I purchased a nice quality ribbon from a local store and had my dry cleaner sew it on. It's a super cost effective way to get a designer look:)
Thanks to all for the kind words and the votes. This contest has been fun and interesting.
Some people commented on the size of the room and seemed very critical of the fact that I called it luxurious. I can truly say that my room is indeed a retreat for me and utterly luxurious- which has nothing to do with its size. I absolutely love what I've been able to create in such a small space and am happy that I was able to share it w/the AT community:)
p.s. my bed frame is on casters, so I just move it away from the wall in order to make the bed;)
