If your 9-5 is anything like ours there is no way you're leaving town at this point in the year. We envy those with summer vacations, as we are pushing our luck by asking for time off for a doctor's appointment. If your schedule is hectic and you're into the spa thing you can take a few hours to recharge at Burke Williams Day Spa. We are plotting the minutes to our massage appointment. If you've never been, Burke Williams has separate sides for men and women so you can hang out in your birthday suit like a Roman God[des] if you so desire [or your bathing suit for the more modest] in the jacuzzis, steam rooms or our favorite the quiet room, where you don't have to be polite and talk to anyone, answer a phone or an email for hours. The quiet room is also a place you can nap in the dark before and after your appointment or read a magazine and sip a cup of tea all in your fluffy robe all in your own private little cubby. The first time we ever went we described it to our friends as "how we want heaven to be when we arrive" It's a little pricey but if you only have a few hours to spare it's the best bang for your buck. You can hang out as long as you want, snack on fruit and tea or if you ask they would probably order you lunch. Locations include: Santa Monica, Torrance, Orange, West Hollywood and Pasadena to name a few. photo credit: Gyslain Yarhi for Carita, Paris
