There's nothing like walking into your apartment after a long day at work and having a landing strip where you can drop your keys, wallet, and any paper propaganda you don't want to deal with right away. Console tables are perfect for this.
If you are thinking of adding a console table to your space, I would suggest that you go for a minimalist table-- they will add the functionality that you need them to provide, while not adding any additional clutter to your space.
Here are five options that are sure to fit perfectly into nearly any space:

Nice idea - but what happens the first time you come home and put your bag, keys, mail, phone, iPod, scarf & gloves on & under it? It gets cluttered and becomes a mess.
Better to select a piece of furniture with drawers and cabinet space where you can put many such items away and out of sight.
I constantly forget to bring my cell phone with me. I remember my Kindle though. Strange, that. A landing strip is exactly what I need to stow my phone on so I'll grab it before I walk out the door. Unfortunately, there's barely space for my torso in my superlongandnarrow front hall, nevermind a console.
Someday . . . (le sigh)
I have been eyeing he CB2 Smart Console Table for some time...she's a beauty, and even though shes cheapest on that list...it's still expensive for my itty bitty budget. LOVE the idea of throwing all my stuff down on one pretty spot.
Another alternative would be to install an ultra-slim IKEA wall shelf, one with an edging so items don't slide off.
Any one of these tables would work great in a small space and yet the one from DWR is $650! Are you kidding me...for that price, that table better dust itself!
i have had the hardest time finding a simple console table between 35" and 45" so the legs fit around my baseboard heater, everything either has a shelf or something going on at the bottom, like these, which wont work with my heaer. :( and under $200.
Whoa. Minimalist is right! I like that forth one.
This would actually work for my laundry/bathroom- there's a small gap in between the washer and the nook that fits stuff like detergent, but not much else. I haven't been looking that much for slim shelving, but a slim console table might just fit the bill?
Good lord those are all so incredibly overpriced and, to me, aesthetically displeasing. Except maybe the last one, with the glass top. Still not worth $200 to me though.
The Portica line from Room and Board would be a good one to add to this list. They have customizable options, which is awesome.
I just created a landing strip in our new home using an Ikea shoe cabinet. The size is perfect and the cubbies can be used for anything! I also like that things can be hidden away. http://lilkidthings.com/and-in-this-corner-2/
Oh dear god I have been jonesing for the blu dot strut console in watermelon for at least a year now. I scour craigslist in the vain hope that someone will sell their to me for less that that ridiculous retail price!!!
