Going through the zillions of images I've saved in Pinterest, I was reminded of this one from a 2012 House Tour, Sam & Anne's Colorful Modern Mix. While the whole house is gorgeous and enviably cool, the clever idea that lingered with me was their mix of dining chairs.
The partially painted antique chairs at the middle of the table mimic the coloring of the shell chairs, but the mix of shapes is unexpected. They coordinate without perfectly matching, which, in my book, is a secret ingredient to looking effortlessly cool. The combination of classic design and worn-in charm fits seamlessly with the rest of the stylish house.
For other homes, the idea is also potentially a way to save a little money while adding enough seats to the dining table. There's no need to buy a full set — just find some chairs at the thrift store and mix it up.
