In putting together my own dining room, I've started to feel that everything is just a little too uniform for the small space - pair of large posters, pair of smaller prints, pair of windows. At this point, my fiancé and I are picking seating, and his idea is to offset a pair of chairs with a cushioned bench.
The look I'm hoping we'll end up with is like what's achieved in these images — pulled together but seemingly effortless. These dining room match-ups work because even though the styles of seat are different, there is continuity in another element such as the color of the wood or upholstery.

Sprout Side Table
Is that an over-sized rug liner?
@dempsern
Probably a jute rug....
I really like 2's bench (and table, I guess). I disapprove of straight benches paired with round tables, like in 6, since only 1 person sitting on the bench can be optimally oriented towards the table, and if you try to put two ppl there, they'll both be screwed. OTOH, maybe you just have a bench you like and only need seating for as many chairs+1 as you have....
Looking closer, it's apparent that there are three chairs around that round table, and the bench isn't intended for dining at all. >.>
I must know where the rug in the first picture is from!
Yes, could we know where this beautiful rug came from?
Thanks
I have no idea what's going on in #5 with the wooden shoeform and cowhide and green and suspended flowers and hammered copper Beetlejuice vase and creepy face..... but I DON'T like it!
I love benches for dining but only if they have some sort of a back rest otherwise they get uncomfortable fast.

Don't know if you'll see this, but on the blog in the comments she says it was bought vintage on ebay. This is why I'm always pleased to hear a coveted something is actually west elm or otherwise attainable. XD
