The Ohio-based Mlicki Office fill a pair of older, historic structures. They were recently renovated using a unique approach: the identity of the old buildings was preserved yet the feeling of the new space is completely modern.
Jonathan Barnes Architecture and Design helped retrofit the old buildings into new and efficient offices, connecting them visually and functionally by subtracting, rather than adding, material. Sections of the roof were raised in order to increase interior daylight and space, while some floors and walls were opened up using a circular patterning.
The new space retains many of the original characteristics of the buildings, yet they are nearly indistinguishable from their previous life.
