Have you ever experienced insane jealousy over a furniture before and after post? Some people have the skills and patience to transform a battered old chair or sofa. Some people just want someone else to do it. For those of us who respect the work but want to be a little more hands-off, there's MOD Restoration.

Many of our before and after posts make furniture restoration look easy. In actuality, as anyone who has ever attempted a furniture project can tell you, restoring vintage pieces can be very tricky. For New Yorkers who aren't willing to attempt rehab projects on their own, there's MOD Restoration.
As you can see in the sampling of before and after photos above, MOD is able to restore just about any piece of furniture. From wood repair to reupholstery and even cane replacement, MOD is a great go-to for high quality restoration. In addition to their restoration services, MOD also sells upholstery — just in case you do want to attempt your own project.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Based on recommendations from AT, I ordered custom cushions for my sofa. First, the order took a really long time to complete and when it was delivered, it was wrong. So I had to wait another few weeks. When the final order arrived, I was not pleased. The entire point of ordering the cushions was to get something softer, which I explained initially. The cushions they provided are filled with a very hard, cheap foam. It has been about 6 months, and the cushions are not holding up well at all and they have not softened up. MOD is friendly, but their work is VERY overpriced. Please don't make the same mistake I did.
Than you for providing a real life experience with this firm, CM70830.
We had two of our armchairs upholstered by them: the final result is just ok (despite the fabulous credentials they flaunt on their website) and they are definitely overpriced, even by nyc standards. And yes they are friendly but not necessarily very professional.
@CM70830, I'm so sorry to hear that you are not happy with the cushions we made for you. I wish you would have told us that you weren't satisfied, so that we could have rectified it for you, instead of hearing about it through a negative comment on AT. If we don’t know that there is an issue, we can’t fix it ☹
@vinpao, I agree that you can find upholstery shops that are a lot cheaper, especially when comparing us to a mom&pop shop in a garage. There is a reason. We pay our upholsterers higher than most other shops do, because we want to retain the best (so that we can provide high quality work). We pay higher rent, because we want our employees to work in a comfortable, beautiful place, so that they are happy to be here. We also want our clients to enjoy coming to our studio. We spend more money on materials than others do, because we don’t want to work with cheap quality material (despite what CM70830 said, we pay a premium for our foam to get the higher grade and we do offer and stand behind our 1 year warranty on our service). We want to run our business properly and ethically, and all our employees are on payroll, while I know that other shops keep them as Independent Contractors (1099’s) to save on high payroll taxes. Our insurance costs are through the roof, and we don’t cut corners on coverage. Believe it or not, running a reupholstery shop is extremely costly, especially when doing it “right”, which is why our prices higher than what you can find out there.
It’s really tough for us to hear the negative comments that you posted, when we work so hard to build our company. Sim and I started MOD 3 years ago when we were 24 years old, and we have and continue to work extremely hard to build a great brand. It’s not easy doing that, especially since we’re so new to the industry and young. You have no idea how excited we were that we were mentioned on Apartment Therapy, but reading your posts stripped every ounce of excitement that we had in an instant. If we have an opportunity to rectify your issue and make you happy with our service, please give us the opportunity. If you don’t wish to give us the opportunity to make you happy, I would just ask that you keep in mind that your negative comments really hurt our reputation that we try so hard to build.
Regards, Hanny
You came here to troll this instead of working out the problems with the business? How unproffesional of you.
Man. That Eames chair is a sacrilege! Hope it was a newer, non-Brazilian Rosewood version.
