When I was 10 years old, I desperately wanted a canopy bed, but I wanted one with intricate carvings and a full tester and ruffled curtains, preferably in purple. Ten year old Nancy was a little immoderate in her taste. Fast forward 20 years or so and I still love the look of a canopy bed, but my style is significantly more minimal than it once was. So I've created this roundup of modern canopy beds that are sure to look lovely in your modern, grown-up space.

LOW

The finials and upholstered headboard of this canopy bed lend a more traditional look, while the simple black platform frame keeps things sleek and modern.

Certainly more traditional than modern, the Williston canopy bed by Birch Lane could still fit into a transitional/contemporary bedroom with the right bedding. A king size is also available for an additional $63.

A gray finish keeps this wood bed more in the "warm industrial" spectrum of things, rather than formal and regal (though it's still pretty regal!).

Our Previous Lists:

MEDIUM

Matte black and brass is a winning combination that's all at once glam, chic and totally on-trend.

More brass and black (well, dark gray, technically), but this time, there's no denying this is all-out glam. You can also purchase this in a king size, in chrome or champagne gold, and with a plethora of headboard options.

When wood or metal tones are just not what you're looking for, pick from 14 happy colors that would surely make this bed the star of your room.

A steel frame (made in the USA!) ensures this canopy bed is made to last, and if you're not so handy with building furniture, have peace of mind knowing that the delivery fee includes assembly.

Other Good Resources:

HIGH

Similar to the previous bed from Pottery Barn, but a little sleeker with an upholstered footboard. Available in full, queen and king.

I can just imagine the dreamy, whispy draperies that would encase this romantic bed from Anthropologie.

Hearty maple and a parsons-like frame come together to form a completely minimal, modern take on a classic.

When you just want to feel like you're on vacation at a resort in Bali 365 days/year, this is the bed for you.
