Those familiar with the work of Eero Aarnio will recognize the Bubble Chair's resemblance to his Ball Chair, introduced in 1963. Though the design is similar — sitting in a circle feels good, y'all — the Bubble Chair took the idea one step further. Freed from the need for support from the floor, the chair could be made entirely of translucent acrylic.
Its translucency and the simplicity of its design mean that the Bubble Chair has a tendency to take on the style of whatever room it's in. I think this helps to explain why it's evolved past space age-y 60s interiors to pretty much any interior. Plus, there's the fact that sitting in a swing that looks like a giant bubble is just plain cool.

I love the way they look, but is sitting/lounging in one actually comfortable?
@LUNA FROM ID Q&A They don't look it but they're actually really comfortable once you've thrown a couple of cushions in.
these are really comfy chairs. love them!
funny that 3 of the 10 photos feature them alongside the Arco lamp.
luna from id q&a - We have several of these in my building at work, and I think they're okay but not all that comfortable. They're very fun and I like sitting in them, but I wouldn't say they're super comfy even with cushions in them. I feel like they might be more comfortable for different people depending on how they hit your particular body type.
Love 'em but didn't realize how big they are.
Soooo where can I get one? :D
The contrast between Aarnio and the little girl in the next picture is hilarious. He looks so displeased to be sitting there, but she looks like she could move in and never leave. Backs up the "how they hit your body" comment.
I've always dreamed of getting one for my daughter's room... the price tag, alas, is beyond me...
It's not translucent, it's transparent.
Thanks for the responses, @elleoh & @everythingistaken. They look like a lot of fun. I've never encountered one in person before, but hopefully I'll get a chance to sit in one someday!
