Developed in 1955 as a further advancement on Arne Jacobson's Ant chair using the pressure molded wood veneer technique for the body. The chair is a masterpiece in the development of the lamination technique for furniture design. The body of the Series 7 chair is molded to fit the body and made up of layers of sturdy beech wood. I know this is absurd, but I can never look at these chairs and not think of the big red hairy monster creature from Looney Tunes.

Otherwise, it's a legitimately attractive non-monstery chair.
Its shape is so luscious and sensual while the material from which it is made is spare and modern - a thing of beauty, for sure.
Its knocked of because its a good looking chair...and most people won't pay 300-500 per chair. Ikea has knocks offs for $40 each.
We have these chairs at work. They look nice but aren't that comfortable to sit on for any length of time. Give me the Robin Day polyprop chair any day of the week!
These are great chairs, but the college where I work has about seven thousand of them, and that many of even a good thing gets tiring to look at, and sit in.
I like these chairs a lot - I find them scandinavian in the best way possible - simple, clean and classic yet still fun and modern. But I can't get over the fact that they remind me so much of public libraries! mainly because both the highschool I went to growing up, and my current public library, have these chairs. Looking back, my highschool definitley deserved extra points for being so design conscious!
