It's the perfect time of year to start thinking about making some homemade goodies to give as gifts for the holidays. If you are someone like me, with more ambition than real sewing skills and a tendency to over-estimate how much free time I actually have (yes, wishful thinking!), you really need to choose your projects with care. I think that this new craft title may be just the ticket - it's definitely in the "best book" stack on my review shelf...
Susan Beal's Sewing for All Seasons is pretty close to perfect when it comes to hitting a balance of what I look for in a crafty book: lots of inspiration, modernity, realistic skill requirements and desirability of finished projects.
Three Things to Love About this Book:
1. It has 24 projects, cleverly organized by season that run the gamut from fashion (a wrap skirt) to home (cafe curtains) to gifts (the cozy slippers and graphic calendar shown above).
2. The instructions are straightforward and complete. Dimensions, techniques, materials, and tools are clearly listed and the instructions are step-by-step, with big photos and easy-to-follow diagrams.
3. The size! It's a hardcover that is on the smaller end of the size spectrum, height and width wise, making it easy to have out on your craft table, thrown in your sewing basket. It's not ungainly to refer to while working and stays open to the page you are working from easily - its simply a well-thought-out book, even down to this detail.
