Now that I have a child I think a lot about my mom and dad as young parents themselves. I'd love a time machine to go back and ask them questions about their lives, their thoughts and to know more about the world I was born into. Ryan Maconochie is building this time machine in paper form for his generation of parents.
This Is Your Book is a fun baby journal that will give your child snapshots of your life and the world when they were born. There are pages to record rejected baby names, news of the day (with space to paste in a news clipping), favorite bedtime stories and early milestones (first word, age when baby first slept through the night, first tooth). Some of the most fun pages ask about life in 2011 (or whenever your baby is born) like who is People's "Sexiest Man of the Year," how much a stamp costs, how much memory an average computer has, parents' favorite musicians and movies, the year's Academy Awards winners, etc.
Some of the prompts feel a bit too much like homework (or maybe a pop quiz that I failed) like a map to fill in which countries had nuclear weapons or the NASDAQ Index and I suspect many parents will fail to use the pages for pasting in physical photos, but all-in-all, This Is Your Book is what many modern parents look for in a baby book and have a hard time finding - a journal that isn't overly precious in design or tone, that's affordable and that is fun to use, not a chore.
