What makes a high chair modern? First, it has to be orange. Just kidding (sort of). Calling a high chair "modern" can refer to the materials it's made from, its color, its lines or its features. Perhaps most simply it's a chair that would look at home among other modern furniture and decor.
We've rounded up the high chairs we think best epitomize a modern design aesthetic. Some are nearly space-age looking while others use color to tweak a more traditional design (and note that many come in a variety of colors).

Commercial Flour Sa...
we had the ikea antilop for our daughter. we spruced it up with a monogram decal from etsy and it looked great! loved that it was lightweight, easy to move, and basically waterproof (no damage if it got left outside).
"First, it has to be orange."
*snerk!*
We have the antilop chair from ikea. I love that the legs can come off so it was easy to pack it to take on vacation. The other plus is the chair is one solid piece of plastic. No cracks and grooves to get bits of food stuck in so cleaning it easy.
what about the NEST ?

Thats the one we have and love it!
We have the Svan chair - modern without looking like it is from outer space like some of these. And, it converts from high chair to booster.
We're on our way to an Ikea (don't have one in OK) in Texas to pick up the Antilop. How can you not like it for $20?
We also have the Ikea antilop - love it, easy to clean and care for! I must say though, that Astro high chair is really cute!
Love, love, love our Antilop! Can't say enough good things about this wonderfully simple chair. I've had four kids, been through several high chairs (even owned a modern wooden one) and this chair is by far leaps and bounds ahead of the others. It's not fancy BUT it's not obnoxious and is oh-so-simple to keep clean and maintain. It seriously looks as good as new with just a wipe down here and there. Did I say I LOVE this chair?
We love our Antilop as well. For the price it can't be beat! Simple and fits right in with the rest of the chairs at our table. We're on baby #2 with our Antilop. If I had to pick another I'd want to try the High Pod though.
A few more high chairs to pick from: http://buymodernbaby.com/buymodernhighchairs.html
We have the Boon chair, and LOVE IT! Adjustable height, easy to clean and great customer service (we broke a clip, and they had me take a picture, and shipped out all new straps in a hurry).
We too have a Svan (it was a gift. Or we too would have picked the antilop!). I do love our chair except that the foot rest makes it a huge climbing temptation. (oh how I wish I could get my 3 year old to SIT all the way through dinner!) One thing that bugs me about all the chairs you show, though, is that none of them can have life beyond the high chair. Both the Svan and the Stokke chairs convert into chairs adults can use, so that at least if we are investing $300 into a child's chair it can look beautiful in our home for longer than the 3-10 years we will have children using it. Also solid wood and machine washable padding means long life even if we choose to sell it off to another family. I've seen what happens to high chairs after being crusted over with food for a few years and most often ain't pretty!
We bought the Boon Flair because (a) it's good looking and (b) it's easy to clean. It's a good high chair but, with time, I have noticed that it's a bit cumbersome (big and heavy) and the pad and straps aren't as easy to clean as I thought. After reading all these comments, I wish we had gotten the Ikea one!!!
We were planning on an Antilop for the future baby, but I got a steal on Craigslist last night -- an almost-new walnut Stokke Tripp Trapp in perfect condition with 2 sets of cushions for $150.
May still get an Antilop one day since it travels so well and so many people here love it.
Beccatown -- enjoy your trip to Ikea! I imagine you'll hit the one in Frisco? Love it.
I've had the Inglesina since my lad was a year old and we still love it. It is pretty roomy for the more strapping-type babes, is well balanced (pretty impossible to tip, despite many creative attempts, is easy to clean, functions at table height WITHOUT the tray (baby can eat like the rest of us), and is pretty neutral. We have grey but it comes in all manner of colored cushions. Unexpected bonus, my now 2 year old can CLIMB into it using the bottom step. Neat!
We have the Antilop, too, in red. It was certainly well-priced, even with the tray and the little cushion for baby's back (which we stopped using after, like, one week). However, our son, who is now almost 11 mos. old, will climb right on out of it and would continue to climb across the table--even though we strap him in! Do others have this problem? Also: everyone else (not my husband and me) is always tripping on the legs b/c they splay outwards.
I love our Antilop! $20! I can't stand high chairs where food gets in all the nooks and crannys. We don't have that problem.
I'd like to see some that have been "hacked"
i splurged for the boon and I love it! It is kinda heavy on the bottom, but it looks cool. I think that it is very very safe for any size baby. I will be using this chair 3 times a day for at least 2 (times number of kids) years, so I wanted to get one that I enjoyed seeing! Also, it serves as a great walker toy for the baby :)
another boon fan.
we got ours for 150 on Craigslist- brand new in the package.
Could not be more satisfied!
Its height adjustable, the chair slides around easily, locks into place, its easy to clean, and best of all- we hardly bother with the straps, because if the table is on, there's no way he can get out.
go for it ! you won't be disappointed ;)
I have the Bloom chair... in orange. It was the one thing I put on our list that I thought if someone gets it for us cool, if not oh well. Its obviously stylish. Its the nicest and most expensive piece of furniture in our house.
I love the resting cradle feature for when your baby is newborn and it will be great now that baby #2 is on her way.
I wish the material was easier to clean. I also wish that it was a little more mobile... I thought since it has rolling wheels to move it that it would be more convenient to transport, but I end up picking it up to move instead of roll. I also thought that the "play seat" mode would look better... that's the mode to make it into a chair for "big kids." I think that the orange shell looks ugly and is too loose.
I probably wouldn't buy this ever, but it is a robust high chair that our son uses now and baby #2 will use and it will have a great resale value once we're ready to get rid of it.
Since we sold every baby item we owned after baby #2, we now need a new high chair for baby #3. I'm definitely going with the Antilop. Glad so many people have had positive experiences with it, I was worried that it might be easy to tip over. And thank you for the monogram decal idea, apple1106, how freaking cute! Unfortunately we have to drive down to Burbank to shop at Ikea, but I'm going there in April for a new couch anyway, so going to pick up my steal of a high chair while I'm there.
chiming in late to add another vote for the antilop!
so far our only problem with it is that when lifting bun-bunny out of the chair, it sometimes gets stuck on his chubby thighs and lifts up, too.
i would also agree that the back rest cushion that ikea sells is not necessary or ideal, as it just gets covered in mush and the babe doesn't seem to notice its absence.
Yay Antilop! We love ours, packs up small for trips, easy to clean and CHEAP!
What about the minui HandySitt. Modern looking, and the top part detaches as a portable high chair.
