Of course there are brilliant and creative design minds located all over the U.S., but we’ve been noticing an uptick of great ideas coming from smack dab in the middle of our country. These Midwestern designers and the cities they live in might not have the same name recognition as L.A. or Brooklyn, but the pieces they’re producing are lovely, exciting, bold, fresh and gorgeous.
We rounded up five Midwestern furniture companies that we’ve either just come across and/or definitely think you should know about in honor of furniture month here on Apartment Therapy. And in addition to them all being talented, they all share another similar benefit: their central location is great for shipping!
1-2) Eastvold Furniture Dennison, Minnesota With heavy Mid-Century Modern influences, Eastvold brings back simplicity and honesty with clean lines, crisp materials like wood and metal and a fun style. Products shown: Classic Credenza and Elko Coffee Table
3-4) Misewell Milwaukee, Wisconsin Bold and bright pops of color with unique shapes characterize the style of this Milwaukee modern furniture company. Products shown: 1/2 Nelson and Sixagon
5-6) Ali Sandifer Studio Chicago, Illinois Slightly more complex shapes mingle with sturdy materials to create highly functioning and ultra modern pieces that are sure to become heirloom. Products shown: Heiss Desk and Mag Coffee Table
7-8) Loll Duluth, Minnesota This isn't your typical outdoor furniture company. Designs are based around the idea of fun and functionality, and these pieces come in both classier, neutral colors and bold, bright colors, for whatever your outdoor space's personality. Products shown: Racer Lounge Chair and Racer Side Car Table
9-10) Blu Dot Minneapolis, Minnesota We'd be surprised if you haven't heard of Blu Dot yet, but not as many people know that they are stationed in Minneapolis. And, they made such a splash with some of their new designs at this year's ICFF they're worth a mention. Products shown: Lily Pad Coffee Table and Dang Media Stand
This is of course just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to amazing modern furniture talent coming out of the Midwest. Why don't you help us add to the list? Share your favorite Midwest-based modern furniture company or designer.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I think Blu Dot was featured on 'Friends' when they first got started...and they've come a long way since. As a Chicagoan, I'm all for Midwestern furniture companies.
Bladon Conner, though a Mississippian by birth, has been catching a lot of attention in Chicago where has lived over the past decade. You can see his work at: http://bladonconner.com/
love eastvold furniture!!!
That table in picture #5 HEISS Desk is just beautiful, the lines and design very classic without knocking off what's been done already.
adding to my wish list.
Bladon Conner, Stone Blitzer, Roscoe Jackson, Lapel? It seems more interesting to focus on smaller designers - all in Chicago!
@jesse G. Please correct me if I am misreading what you are say, but not everyone who is in reading this post that is jazzed about midwest furniture design is in Chicago. Until they have an Apartment therapy KC, Omaha, or Minneapolis, Chicago is as close as it gets for us, and it is nice to hear about some stores that are cool and actually accessible for once.
fyi: eastvold furniture is about 45 mins south of minneapolis and his stuff has pieces can be found in homes across the country.
A $1000 coat rack? Seriously?
I mean it's beautiful but at such a price.. WTH?
Geez, just screw another coat hook inside the closet door!
Who has that kind of money? For a coat rack? (Misewell) I'm scared to look at anything else.
This is more like Great Lakes upper Midwest version. What about the rest of the Midwest? You only listed places in MN, IL and WI. Also, I wish the stuff on here was more affordable.
@CiudadDuerpo I know! I was disappointed to see no listings for Ohio. So I did my own research and found this
http://www.20thcenturycincinnati.com/pages/dealers.html
It has dealers all throughout Ohio and a few surrounding Midwest locations as well. I'm from Southern Ohio so I was more interested in the places located there so I did a post at my blog that listed all the Southern Ohio places. Hopefully that link will help you find some locations near you :)
