Crazy about MidC Modern? The we've just found another little nugget of retro goodness for you. Started by Judith Engel up in Troy, New York, Ruby Modern is a small online store that sells "MID-CENTURY MODERN themed items." Right now that means clocks, artwork and travel bags with a very mod theme. The artwork is original SHAG and, in the case of the clocks, they are totally similar to Nelson and Eames designs...

The artwork is just plain nutty. It's a collection of seriagraphs from The Shag Collection, 12 Stations of Ptolemy. You can really groove out with these mod zodiac prints.
This is a cool new source that we hope grows for fans of this style. Check it out and let us know what you think.

What is this "mid century modern" style? How can I learn more about it?
Ha. I was just going to post, "Am I the only one who's NOT crazy about MidC Modern?" I get why people like certain pieces, and why design-wise it's significant, but overall, it just doesn't do it for me. I do love those mod zodiac prints, though.
It would be a far better site if she could get her hands on authentic Nelson clocks to sells alongside the seriographs. As it is, there is a glaring (almost offensive) disconnect.
At the very least set up different sites for the authentic art and knock-off clocks and bags.
Omigoodness -- Judith Engel used to run Vintage Vogue on River Street in Troy. I don't remember the bricks-and-mortar store being totally MCM; we'll have to see if it's still in business if we go out there for Christmas.
I'm not really sure how those bags fit in...?
Okay, that clock is adorable.
<3 the clock, too
