Modernica: purveyors of reproduction mid-century modern furniture and...Christmas trees? That's right! And not just any Christmas tree, but one that is mindful of homes that also celebrate Hanukkah. The tree features a repeated Star of David motif. It is made out of lightweight Baltic birch.
The Los Angeles Times blog, LA at Home, was at Modernica's recent warehouse sale and reported that the Christmas tree lot nearly stole the show from all the colorful fiberglass shell chairs and Case Study furnishings.
The reusable Superstar trees are designed by Modernica co-owner Frank Novak. Given that Modernica's Beverly Boulevard showroom is located in a neighborhood with a large number of Jewish residents, Novak said he wanted to design the tree with a Star of David to please households that celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah. The company's website touts them as a, "great alternative to cut down or plastic trees." Check out Modernica's blog for more photos.
Each tree can be personalized with paint or ornaments and it collapses for easy shipping and storage for next year.
The Superstar is available in two sizes and ships within a week. The large Superstar tree is 5 feet, 9 inches high and costs $240; the small tree is 22.5 inches high and costs $125. See them on display at the store, 7366 Beverly Blvd., or order them online.
