Werner Sobek's view of the sustainable future is hard edged and uncompromisingly modern: glass and steel abound.

We like these houses as design exercises, but we're a bit troubled by the indulgent use of steel—which has a large carbon footprint—and by the apparent use of glass without regard to solar exposure. Still, they are beautifully resolved examples of design.
