So many apartments we've rented have had random medicine cabinets installed over the sink that should have been recessed but weren't (just slapped up over the sink and awkwardly sticking out), or they have had flat mirrors without needed storage. This mirror + shelf from IKEA has both. Storage and a mirror but without needing to be recessed...

We spotted this walnut Molger mirror cabinet on a trip to Ikea several months ago and were really impressed with its design. The mirror slides from left to right on a track so that you can retrieve your toothbrush and toothpaste behind it, yet leaves some open storage for easy access. Granted we wouldn't recommend this solution to folks that tend to jam things haphazardly inside a medicine cabinet, or who have prescriptions to hide from prying eyes.. but for those of us who like things neat and have attractive containers for cotton balls and lotion, it has a particular spa-like feel.

White Enamel Flatwa...
When I last visited Ikea here in Perth (Australia) the Molger shelf was being discontinued. The rest of the line is here to stay (for now).
I use doodad this as my landing strip by the front door.
i would like to see this in metal.
I like it! But when I first saw it, I thought that the mirror actually swiveled 90 degrees so that it could completely cover the storage space - now THAT would be awesome!
I agree about the swivel. That was my impression at first too and it would be very cool.
that's a pretty good idea, chris - annapolis.
I saw this is in person last week and it looked and felt cheap. No thanks.
I had this and i miss it!! i recently moved to a new home, and need it back!
This is also on clearance @ IKEA in Minneapolis... probably won't be around for long.
Molger walnut is leaving as of April 1. Molger style will continue in birch!
I bought this last month at the Emeryville store (on clearance). After assembling it to make sure everything worked correctly, I took off the mirror section, spray painted the frame high gloss white and reattached. It's in our guestroom and looks great with some bright colored vases inside and also a few frames on top.
afterParis - That is a great idea, how big is the mirror. We are in need of a bedroom wall mirror that we could see ourselves in at least to the waist. Can you see youself in it that far? Im going to go check this out, it looks cool.
Emily the Cat - ditto. Was a little bummed when i learned otherwise. I need at least one space in my bathroom that I can conceal entirely!
The mirrored part measures 20h by 10w and I can see to just above my waist, but I'm short and 25% of what I see is the wall behind my head.... Here's a photo. Not the best quality but you'll get the idea. http://afterparis.com/diy/mirror.jpg
Sokanomx, just checked out your blog. Great job with the hacks! Hope you are liking SoMa as much as we like it (and our dog, too).
