When it comes to kitchens we love open shelving and a comforting, homey atmosphere. But we also like sleek and modern kitchens with simple color palettes and sleek tile. Enter Moline's prefectly balanced black and white kitchen with just enough warmth and just enough modern to make us green with envy.
We found the images in the LA Flickr Pool and love the slightly textured tile, the great light filtering through the windows and the dark walls with the contrasting shelves. The kitchen feels open, accessible and full of what you need to actually cook, but without being cluttered, crowded or messy. We plan to implement more of a Farmhouse kitchen look to our space since it serves to add warmth and love the subtle details: the metro shelving, mason jars full of ingredients, metal ikea tins to help organize, painted wood floors and glossy white cabinets.

those windows! that wide plank flooring! liking this.
That is one gorgeous room!
Ok, let's be real here for a second. I love open shelving as much as the next gal, but how practical is it REALLY? It collects grease and dust in a kitchen, and how can that possibly provide enough storage?
Cool floor! The combination of elements makes me think of an old laboratory. But as someone who bakes a lot (and occasionally spills flour), I wonder if it would be hard to keep the floor clean? I'm imagining bit of food building up in the cracks, not pretty! I like my kitchen a little more - wipable.(Also, the light, especially in #2 and #3, is not doing the space any favors, but I think it's just the photography...)
I want to bake an apple pie in that kitchen!
So beautiful just the right mix and feel..I want to bake chocolate cake in that kitchen.
I also want to bake there :)
Open shelving is used in professional kitchens exclusively, so I'm thinking its pretty practical. It's all about its relation to the stove.
That's quite impressive. I luv the windows, no upper cabinets, and is that a double oven with lockers around it? fancy but open and casual!
I really wanted to like it - It has good bones - but I can't.
Just look at that gigantic pile of clutter by the windows and on the sills - you can't get the fridge door open without hitting the garbage pail! Perhaps if they placed some of those items on the vast empty shelves above the counter and where the "Home" is above the stove...
And what's w/ that giant unreachable winerack atop the fridge - the heat from the fridge is gonna ruin that wine.
Is that a microwave on the floor near the entrance?
Despite it's expensive cabinetry and appliances, this place desperately needs better organization, more enclosed storage - and a de-cluttering "Cure".
Oh my-FINALLY! a kitchen I can really sink my teeth into. Most featured here I find to be too much of any one style: modern, retro, perfectly contemporary-this one just looks beautiful. The color palette is so calming. LOVE.
In spite of some of the oddities and the lack of organization that bepsf notes...
overall, I like this. I find it calming amidst the storm of
clutter and oddities...(IE: wine rack placement)
I love the black wall that is just enough....
the combination of that wall, the off white stone...the wood...and those windows...the light pouring in....
I can't help but just think....fabulous.
I'm with loriSF...I too, would love to bake in that kitchen...
and replace the steel cart in front of the windows with a small table and chairs.....and stare out those windows...
over coffee and cake, of course.
Can someone please explain or link to how to install floating shelves like that?
I don't like that type of flooring, but I LOVE this kitchen! So much space, so much airy bright windows, comfy looking armchairs and all!
Wait, did someone above say this was expensive cabinetry? Is it? The cabinets look like IKEA. Maybe I'm wrong, but at least the pulls look like IKEA. The open shelving looks awesome, but I don't think it's expensive. And the metal rack on the right looks like The Container Store or something similar. Seems pretty affordable to me.
I love this kitchen. I think the owners cleaned up for these photos (aka, "photo-styled") so the placement of some of the stuff doesn't make sense, but that doesn't bother me. What I love about it is the feel. They got the mix of industrial/cold and home (not the sign but the feel)/warm right. The floor material and color is spot on; the overall balance of colors is fantastic. Whoever designed this kitchen did it right.
