Here's another really cute theme and a favor to go with it: a monster party. Forget about the cheap trinkets for favors and use the free pattern for this very simple monster doll.
Event planner Eden Passante of Sugar and Charm, a guest contributor at One Charming Party, created the pattern for this stuffed monster as well as a coloring page. Eden also shares some great ideas for snacks at the party including mini cupcakes with monster eyes- sprinkles and 'glue' (white frosting).

I love this idea. That looks like an easy pattern too. My friend Sara hand-knit some monster party favors for her son's 3rd birthday and choreographed a stop-motion animation film with them. MUCH more time consuming, but they turned out adorable. Photos of her monsters here
We are having a monster themed party for my son's first birthday next week so what a great post. I absolutely adore the "loot" for his party - I found an etsy seller to make felted monster balls. Each one is different, hand-made, about the size and a tennis ball, and $5 each - which is what I would have spent at the dollar store on junk anyways.
Very timely for me as well. My son's monster themed 2nd birthday party is next week! We already have favors, but I will definitely be printing out some of those cute monster coloring pages from the site.
Thanks!
My daughter had a "Monster Art" party for her sixth birthday. That's what she asked for, so we combined her love of crazy monsters and her creative style into one big outdoor party. Plus, we were expecting a new baby right before her birthday, so we used the few months leading up to the party to sort through all of our accumulated art stuff to use. We didn't buy anything. Instead of stuffed fabric monsters we made giant stuffed paper ones out of a roll of brown paper and stuffed them with plastic grocery sacks. The kids decorated to their heart's content. Our monster inspiration also came from some monster cups that we found on a clearance rack one day.

A monster theme really can take advantage of lots of stuff you already have around the house!
Juicy Bits did a monster party for her daughter. This woman's parties are amazing... like a train wreck, but opposite. They're so beautiful and amazing that I have to look, and yet you can read hints (some subtle, some not) of how much of a control freak she is. These parties probably aren't healthy for her (the mom) to be throwing since it only feeds her need to micro-manage, but they sure are fantastic to look at and get inspiration from.
