This unique home was designed by Gigaplex Architects for a single person living in Woodland, Utah. The home is constructed of two linked corrugated-metal grain silos making for some great circular interior space.

Measuring in at 1,800 square feet for one person, the Silo House doesn't exactly start green. But it does have some cool green features:
- The southern exposure maximizes natural daylight and solar heat gain during the cold winter months
- An electric mesh is installed into the lower flower to heat the house along with a propane-burning stove for backup.
- The metal grating on the second story deck provides shade from the summer sun.
- The exterior metal should be fully recyclable.

Love it too !!!
This might just be the most awesome house I have ever seen.
The floor looks great - are those rubber floor tiles with a high gloss lacquer applied? Just interested, because I tried something similar but had problems with the application, so now have to sand the lacquer off and start again.
The floors are rubber tile with a built in shine, just clean them and buff. Rubber was chosen to let the solar gain penetrate into the slab and to let the low voltage electric radiant heat in the slab radiate back into the room. They are realy nice and warm.
this is amazing! the design is excellent, material choice innovative and original, breaks the association between silo and farm, yet melds rural or vernacular with modern. very successful project. :)

Montesilo is in the process of getting it's Green certification. The exterior metal and rubber floor are both made from recycled material. The round design is inherently efficient. The house is almost completely solar heated and is pre-wired for solar power which is one of future additions.
What an incredibly unique living space. I am really liking this!

I've always loved alternative architecture and this one's a gem. Circles and curves definitely influence the yin energy of the feng shui. I could live here!
