Black curtains are a less expected way to dress your windows, but they work in grand bedrooms (Image 4), earthy, organic settings (Image 3), and modern living spaces (Image 1). They add contrast to white walls and visual consistency to dark rooms. They can also help to highlight tall ceilings (flaunt 'em if you got 'em).

Oooh. I think I totally want to do this in my bedroom
I am so glad I found this post. I am thinking about a nursery design and I wanted white walls but wasn't sure what to do about the curtains. I wanted them dark so they blocked out more sun during nap time but couldn't visualize it. The contrast looks great and I love this look.
When I moved into my new apt, I did this in my bedroom with a velvet damask panel and it's gorgeous. Dark, edgy, luxurious. Love it!
I have black curtains and just adore them. Having dark light-blocking curtains lowers my heating and cooling bills, plus I love the dramatic look they give. They really transform boring renter's white. Most people react skeptically to the idea but end up liking the actual look once they see them in person.
I have sheer black curtains over cream-ish roman blinds in my bedroom. I love how they break up the boring beige of my rental apartment's walls!
