When I'm comparison shopping in the aisle on a quick buy, I usually equate quality and cost. If one toaster is priced $20 higher than another, I tend to assume there's a reason for the steeper price, and that I'll be getting an appliance that will last longer and perform better. But that's not always true. A recent list of the best values in small appliances proves that a little cash can still go a long way.
The non-profit organization and trusted product authority Consumer Reports rounded up under-$50 appliance deals which "won't bust your holiday budget," listing ten counter top and household appliances which offer good bang for your buck and would make great gifts this holiday season. Every item on the list received great ratings from their experts, and all cost less than a picture of President Grant.
Some highlights of the list are the Hamilton Beach Digital Toaster ($35), one of the least expensive but highest-scoring toasters in Consumer Reports tests, and the Cooks 10-Speed Hand Mixer ($30), a JC Penney exclusive that outperformed much pricier mixer brands. The rest of the Consumer Reports article picks out the best value buy for a food chopper, iron, hand vacuum and more.
If the Christmas shopping is all done, I think this is a great guide to treat yourself to a new space heater. (It is chilly out there!) Knowing Consumer Reports signed off on each of these inexpensive buys means it's a great value and well worth a small splurge on yourself this season.
