...when you figure in the do-able budget, accessibility of the materials (basic plumbing pipes/fittings and pine planks) and the sturdiness of the finished piece, it is elevated to a DIY masterpiece.
It reminds of us of our friends Shannon & Emmett's shelves which they made from plumbing parts and old stair treads, which is another favorite (inspirational!) project.

$200 why not just buy a few new bookshelves :/
I was hoping this would be something cheap

$200 _is_ cheap.
$200 for a CUSTOM BUILT bookshelf is pretty cheap
Even IKEA is gonna cost you at least $200 for something that's not made out of particle board. If you want cheap Chinese-made furniture, head to Walmart or Target for particle board heaven. But even that's gonna cost you around $50 a pop for something a quarter of the size of that custom-made shelf.
I like cruising thrift stores myself, but the pipes on this shelf look so cool and vintage! Almost kinda steampunk. :)
I'm with Simply Hibiscus...$200 is a bit pricey for homemade shelves.
gorgeous! we made shelves with decorative brackets and wooden boards and it was probably 200 bucks and doesn't look as nice as this. a wall of shelving for 200 bucks is not that much. even crummy ikea shelves of that size would be at least that much and only hold up for a few years at best.
