Terrariums are a very popular decor item right now, and we appreciate a good instructional on making our own! Let's not kid ourselves, we have what we have deemed a "purple thumb." As the complementary color to green, we manage to not grow things easily, but kill them with little to no effort. So bring on a step-by-step!
Poppytalk, one of our favorite blogs, has a great link to ArtMind's tutorial on assembling a moss terrarium. We've created many things by "winging it," but gardening and planting are just not our forte. We welcome a step-by-step! If nothing else this gives us someone else to blame if (when) we end up killing it! Plus, we love the little added detail of the ceramic birds inside...so cute!

Oh for heaven's sake! I just passed up the sweetest little pot of moss today because my apartment's too dry for it. Why didn't I think of a terrarium? I'm going to go see if it's still there tomorrow.
Thought I was being so smart scavenging moss from outside to put in my terrariums. Had a couple of unexpected Christmas dinner guests as a result; some tiny flying insects must have been napping in the moss. Which probably wouldn't have been so bad, but my gift to our niece was a terrarium I made with nursery plants, so she got a couple of new pets too.
The terrarium's awesome, but I LOVE the little birds!!! Where can I find them?

Thanks for posting this ATSF! We're thrilled! And I had to mention, did you see that snail on the jar? Mitsy mentioned it to me after I posted it - I had missed it, so in case you did too!
Here is a great collection of assorted lichen and moss for your terrarium.
