open62608.jpgMother Earth Gardens makes thumbs greener. Striving for consciousness from plants to pots to dirt, eco to chic this Minneapolis garden center makes sustainability a little sexier and a lot easier to achieve.

Green isn't just for Chemlawn anymore.

For some, green alone is a worthy goal. But Mother Earth adds an atypical year-round inventory of annuals, locally made goods, and gorgeous accessories. All fertilizer and compost is chemical-free and locally created, if you know what we mean. And the products and plants themselves come in striking and healthful varieties you won't find anywhere else in the 612.

Whether you shop here for eco or ego, their cool containers, specialty plants and friendly, forth-coming know-how makes it the go-to place in the Twin Cities. This year, they say the hot seller is anything edible - go at-home locavores!

Find it at:
3738 42nd Ave South, Mpls
call: 612 724 2296

Example: the intro photo pots are made from rice hulls and can be broken down to degrade fully in a compost or landfill. Others are made from scrap rubber and are 4-season friendly.

The plants are gorgeous but the gifts are almost better. Look for specialty products like these handmade and reclaimed wood birdhouses. Some goods give back to local non-profit programs.

All pots are compostable and they accept plastic planting pots for recycling.

Many goods are locally made - these are done by a neighbor.
