I like furniture I can envision my whole family using. I'm also partial, as most of us are, to space efficient designs. And it doesn't hurt if I can see myself catching a catnap on it. So naturally this floor cushion set inspired by the iconic children's stacking toy caught my attention. Not only as a unique piece itself, but possible DIY potential.
Mound of Rounds is the latest nifty object created by concept gang Cumulus Project based out of Vancouver.
It comes with a $1,400 price tag. But, as with a lot of great design, it's made up of simple components - a round tabletop, a set of lockable casters, and some floor pillows, or DIY poufs of various sizes and colors. Presto! A handy sculptural arrangement for entertaining guests of all sizes for both real and imaginary tea parties.

To be on trend for this year an ombre set would be neat!
If I lived in a daycare centre, sure.
Although I doubt it would be sufficiently comfortable and supportive to use as described, kids probably would love playing with it.
Sure, kids would love it. But at age 18 they'd probably like to have that $1400 plus interest in their college fund. Ridiculous.
LOL@Jasmineisdomestic comment. So true :)
$1400?!
I love the concept of stacking floor pillows - what a good storage solution. That problem (and the hefty price/time tag) is what has been holding me back getting some.
And I like them in the rainbow colors. I wouldn't have thought of the children's toy unless it was pointed out.
But I just like joy.
looks like those teething rings that stack together for babies...
$1400??? Those better be some pretty amazing pillows.
I do love this idea, and think it could be a pretty easy DIY. It would even be more affordable to commission someone to make it... plus what kid wouldn't love it??
Sweet goodness I love it. I'm about to move into a SMALL apartment with my two small kids, and was wondering about seating beside the couch... they'd love this, and if I make it using some pretty Amy Butler fabrics, it will blend with the decor, too... love love love.
Very cool!
They're pretty basic zafus, cheap to make (three pieces of fabric and buckwheat hulls or foam for filler) and very available from meditation supply stores and some food co-ops.
Great and all but very standard. Fabric, standard, colours, standard, upholstery, standard, pillow quality, looks pretty standard, white base with...casters??!, very standard, and pretty strange. It's unlikely that the little bowl of lemons is going to detract from the impending backache.
You'd have to be a pretty dense to pay that amount of money for it. And I like the way the little red one seems to only to serve the function of 'to hug' or 'to sit alone with no one on it cause it's too small to do much else'.
If they want to sell these, they need to retake the photos using kids because the photo of the adults sitting on them just looks stupid. Nobody is going to do that (for very long, anyway).
I love it... not for $1400 of course....
