The living space aka "the cube" for the roommate was designed and furnished by CB2 and will be home to just the right person, which according to the MSI website is someone who is "an adventurous, outgoing person with a strong interest in learning about science and the world around her or him".
The experiment, entitled Month at the Museum, will run from October 20 - November 18, 2010 and if successfully completed, the roommate will receive a prize of "$10,000, a package of tech gadgets, an honorary lifetime membership to MSI, and new knowledge and experiences".
Dropping everything and living away from home for a month in an amazing museum sounds a bit like some crazy grown-up version of From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler — would you give it a go?

If I didn't have kids, I think I would. Why not? I bet you'd learn a lot about yourself. It would be weird, for sure, but I think after a few days you would just sort of tune out all the people walking around.
I could totally do it if that laptop has internet.
Who cleans my space? If I could get the time off work, I'd give it a go, as long as I could have some kind of technology with me. i.e. music, computer. I think it could be super fun!

I grew up here, and I remember when the city museums had a mission to educate people. Now they pull stunts and try to draw crowds in an attempt to make money. It's sad, really.
You bet I would.
For $10 000 and the oppourtunity to avoid as much student debt as possble, I'd postpone my studies a semester and take part in this. I agree with the needing internet so I'd insist upon having a connection.
Nope, not for anything. I SAW those movies, I KNOW what can happen at night!!! ;^)
Seriously, though, I know I have trouble sleeping in hotels and guest rooms, I cannot even **imagine** the insomnia I'd have with sleeping in a glass box in a dark, huge, strange building! Not to mention that you young, buff, adorable types might find it fun to be "on display", but I sure wouldn't! Nope. Not me! Even though the money would be lovely.
In a heartbeat I would do it.
I'd do it for the $$, not the tech stuff. But it couldn't be summer, nuh-uh, no way. No fresh air and sunshine and picnics and kayaking and swimming and...and...everything we wait all year for? Nope. November, maybe. Yes, November.
Can I bring an exercise bike? I'd do it if I didn't have a kid and could get the time off work.

I'm with you there, but November's not so bad. Agree to do it in February. February is the worst! Cold, grey, dirty... The point where it feels like winter will never end. In fact, to not have to go outside for 30 days in the dead of winter sounds like an excellent idea. I'm in!
I'd hate it but I'd do it for $10k.
10K plus extras...I would so do it.
Oh man, "From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler" was one of my FAVORITE books growing up! This would be too fun - especially with all the friends I have in Chicago.
I'll have to look into it...
I'm seriously considering it, right now.
This has always been my favorite museum, and I'd...wait, you have to stay in the cage 24hrs?
Still do it, if I was sans bebe. And husband, and sphynx cat (he's really, really needy).
Reading comprehension and link= you are an indentured servant to the MSI for 30 days. That is creepier than the "Visible Man" exhibit.
Where is the bathroom/shower?
I'd do it in an instant if I was sans child. But like Momozrz asked... where would you use the facilities?!
I would do this in a heartbeat! Especially if it's in the summer as I have RSAD and despise hot weather. Assuming I would have internet I could sign up for some online classes. I wonder if they would let me bring in some art projects to occupy my time as well. If I wasn't getting weddinged in 3 months, I would jump at the chance to do this!
Nice idea... but it's already been done. And the person doing it wasn't paid anything... it was his idea.

It appears you can tour the rest of the museum at night. You are not "locked in the box."
From the website:
"There will be plenty of time to explore the Museum and its exhibits after hours, with access to rarely seen nooks and crannies of this 77-year-old institution."
There's an ep of the "Twilight Zone" where the guy has to live in a glass cage for a year. He was forbidden from speaking, though.
My question: UM...where do you shower? And are your meals delivered? I don't see a kitchen.
I can't live a month without cooking my own meals or walking around naked. Sorry.
Is this one of those "performance art" kind of experiments?
AW!! If only I were studying in Chicago!
I'm applying!
