Last week we took a look at some music production apps for the iPad, but what about for the iPhone/iPod touch? Some impressive music apps exist for our teeny portable devices and they appeal to both experienced musicians and newbies alike. Whether you're looking to sequence and mix full songs or just mess around with some cool effects processors to create some unique sounds, we've put together a list of some great apps that should get your creative juices going.

NanoStudio - NanoStudio by Blip Interactive is one of the best all around music creation apps for the iPhone/iPod touch. It features a sequencer, 16 sample trigger pads, 4 virtual synths, a sample editor and mixer. You can record samples using the iPhone's built-in microphone or upload your own via WiFi using NanoSync. Once you're done with your creation, you can use NanoSync to export the .wav file to your Mac or PC via WiFi.

Moog Filtatron - Filtatron is a realtime audio filter and effects engine and is Moog's software version of their Moogerfooger effects processor. Running sound from a line/microphone input, the sampler or built-in oscillator, you can create some nifty effects and unique sounds with Filtatron's filter modulation, delay, and overdrive. You can even import songs from your iPhone/iPod Touch into Filtatron's sampler. The app records samples up to 10MB and audio files can easily be transferred back and forth between Filtratron and your computer.

AmpKit+ - This amp and effects app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch boasts plenty of recording, re-amping, sharing, and audio copy & paste capabilities. Paired with Peavey's AmpKit LiNK (an audio interface for electric guitar, bass, keyboard, etc.) you can plug in your instrument and turn your iDevice into an amps/effects board/recorder. AmpKit features 75 amp/pedal presets and allows you to create and save an unlimited number of your own custom setups. Your recordings can be pasted into other mixing/mastering apps and you can download recordings to your computer, e-mail them, or share them via SoundCloud.

FourTrack - FourTrack is a multitrack audio recorder for those who want to record songs or capture music ideas on their iPhone/iPod touch. It's a great songwriting app for musicians on-the-go and works with the built-in mic and headphones, iPhone headset mic, or iPod touch with a third-party mic. You can also pair the app with a GuitarJack audio interface to plug in your guitar or microphone. Features a metronome, pan control, and AudioCopy/Audio Paste, just to name a few. Using WiFi sync, you can download recordings to your computer and import them into any recording software.

Nanoloop - This app is a sequencer, synthesizer and sampler and is perfect for those who want to create electronic music from scratch. Its interface is super minimalistic which is definitely appealing next to some other music apps that seem to have a whole lot going on. Nanoloop's step sequencer is intuitive and easy to use and the synthesizer allows you to create beats, noises, basses and pads. You can use your iPhone's microphone, headset mic (iPhone, iPod touch 2nd gen) or nanoloop's sound output to record samples, as well as upload/download samples via iTunes (on a device running iOS4). Other features include copy & pasting samples to/from other apps, exporting to .wav and the ability to e-mail your projects to other Nanoloop users.

LaDiDa - This fun "reverse karaoke" app uses artificial intelligence to make anyone's singing voice sound like a professional. After singing or rapping into your iPhone, LaDiDa analyzes your voice and creates background music to match it, automatically tuning your voice to the correct notes while adding vocal effects. Simply choose your style and tempo, start singing into your iPhone's built-in mic, and play the fully composed song back. Songs can be shared via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail.
