Musical Chairs: Five Chairs that Seat and Play a Beat

Musical Chairs: Five Chairs that Seat and Play a Beat

It's surprising that with the popularity of the iPod, iPhone and other digital music devices, there aren't many chairs that can accommodate to dock, power and control players. But here are five chairs with audio capabilities incorporated into the design, a space saving feature only second to wearing headphones...

The Natuzzi Sound Chair is one of the more handsome looking of this bunch, covered in fine leather and offering an invisibly integrated audio system with built-in speakers that connect to your iPod or MP3 player via an audio-in connection.

The iBose Egg is a custom designed seat with a Bose Companion 3 subwoofer and satellite speaker system, with a JBL OnTour portable speaker system sporting 1.5" stereo speakers and an integrated amplifier up top. Dr. Evil would most definitely have this in his nefarious lair.

The Music Sofa offers users not only a CD player with built-in speakers, but also "Chinese fingers", aka massage motion. The broken teacup design is just a concept and unlikely to ever see production.

Sonic Chair is by far our favourite of the bunch of musical chairs, thanks to its integrated iPod/laptop compatible sound system and also it's ball chair design that more than hints at it's 60's inspiration, Aarnio Eero's Ball Chair. Analog dials/controls and the mod colours complete the effect.

De La Knoll isn't really a chair you'd exactly want to sit in, considering the whole chair has been converted into a portable-on-wheels DJ turntable system that would make Plug 1, 2 and 3 more than proud. But we more than like this DIY sound system with the punny name. The LP storage on the side is a nice touch too.
