Not all workspaces are created equal. Some of us would rather decorate our creative spaces with spools of ribbon than an LED light rope. Pick torn magazine pages over multiple monitors. If you're planning a crafty and inspirational space, check out this list of must-have accessories.
Here's what we're planning on including in our soon-to-be home office, a spot for everything from blogging to sewing. If you've got your own inspiring space, let us know what your must-have accessories include.
Gridded Cutting Mat
It's a great place to lay out your creative work, for everything from sewing to scrapbooking to graphic design. We love this black and white Making Memories mat ($19.99), big enough to carve out some serious work space at 17"x23".
A Magnetic Strip
What works in the kitchen to wrangle knives is a great solution to store crafty tools like scissors and box cutters. We're digging the ASKER kitchen knife rack from IKEA ($14.99).
A Place to Stash Pens & Pencils
Depending on your trade, you might use a lot or a little, but everyone's got at least a few pens and pencils to store. I'm loving this small acrylic pencil cup ($8.94). But if you've got a gaggle of colored pencils to store, try this Spin-O-Tray organizer ($15.26), like Chris did in his crafty office.
Lots of Storage on Display
Things like paper, ribbons and fabric require plenty of storage. Rather than hiding all your materials, let them shine in gorgeous displays. Stash tiny trinkets in apothecary jars, line rubber stamps on IKEA's RIBBA picture ledge ($14.99), and fold up paper and fabric scraps into the conveniently-shaped EXPEDIT shelves ($129.99).
An Inspiration Board
The choices are endless: corkboards, magnetic boards, clipboards mounted to the wall, string or wire with clothespins or clips, or just pin your inspiration right on the walls. All that matters is that you get some pretty pictures up to stimulate your creative side.
