Name: Joel Henriques Online Home: Made by Joel My favorite children's book and why I love it: I'd have to say The Maggie B. by Irene Haas is my favorite. There are so many things in it that appeal to me. I love boats and the water, and also the idea of having my own little space to escape into and enjoy. There are also great song lyrics in the book, and while reading it for the first time to my kids, I made up some tunes for them. The melodies really stuck and we sing them often.
To celebrate Learning at Home month, we've asked some of our favorite bloggers about their favorite children's book, illustrator and more. Read on…

My children's favorite book: It's always rotating of-course, but one of their all time favorites is Frog and Toad All Year by Arnold Lobel. The whole Frog and Toad series is amazing. The stories are both kind and entertaining, and the relationship between Frog and Toad is wonderful.

A children's book illustrator I adore: Vintage (1960's-70's) Brian Wildsmith. There is some brilliant work in those books. Fantastic lines, texture, color, and geometrical shapes. My Grandma, who was an amazing artist herself, showed me his books when I was a kid. I still have many of them on the shelves in my art studio.

If my life so far were turned into a children's book the title would be: The Curious Constructor

Thanks Joel!

More Joel: Joel is the creative brain (and hands) behind some of our favorite projects: Modern Dollhouse and Furniture, Toddler-Sized Toy Bench and Backyard Playhouse. A trip to Made By Joel is never a disappointment so make one today!
