My favorite children's book and why I love it: I loved the entire Wizard of Oz series as a kid--in my dreams, I was Dorothy and Ozma was my best friend and life was magical and perfect. Honestly, I was a bit nervous to introduce the books to my own kids for fear they'd hate them and destroy my fantasy of reading a chapter to them each night. Turns out that wasn't the case; they fell in instant love with Ozma, and I've overheard them playing "Nome King's Palace" at night when they're supposed to be sleeping.
My children's favorite book: Aside from Ozma of Oz, my 6 year-old daughter has recently informed me that she likes "sad, real non-fiction about real things." I have no idea what that means. She and her younger sister also really like 13 Words by Lemony Snicket, which is how they know words like "despondent" and "haberdashery." (I swear, they're not pretentious. They just really like the book.)

An illustrator I adore: Maurice Sendak, hands down.
If my life were turned into a children's book the title would be: Don't Let the Pigeon Wake Mom Up Before Six.
Thanks Liz!

Shaw's Original Fir...
'Ozma of Oz' is one of my top 3 fav kid books of ALL TIME from my own childhood!!!
the wizard of oz series was my absolute fave as a kid! rented them from the library, i never actually owned a single one. it's sad to me that they're so little known- i've never met anyone else who's read them :P
i liked anything by l. frank baum, or ronald dahl.
we just recently discovered the Oz books in our very new and very small town. they have vintage copies of the entire series and our two boys, ages 7 1/2 and almost 6, adore them! they talk about the stories and characters almost as if they are real. it's amazing! the stories are so imaginative and well written.
