Location: Genoa, Italy
Type of space: Terrace
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: I live with my boyfriend, in Genoa, Italy. We have a tiny apartment with a 15 square meters terrace. Instead of watching the weather channel, I love to look up to the sky to know if we'll have a pretty day or not. In the evenings, when we return from our jobs/college (I'm about to graduate as a landscape architect), we enjoy having a relaxing drink in our cozy terrace, looking at the sea and the seagulls flying nearby...
How did you create it? My project is very simple, I wanted to cover the sides of the terrace with a lot of plants. To this effect I created a high level with Ikea furniture, then I choose small plants to place in the front in order to avoid covering the sea sight. The color scheme is: warm colors on the sides (red, yellow, pink), and cold colors in the front (purple, blue and white). I wanted to have interesting focal points all year long, so I chose evergreen plants and in every different season there are at least two blooming plants. The weather here is great so I can have a lot of different types of plants. The only problem we have is the closeness of the sea, therefore the plants have to be salt resistant.
Recommended store, site, product or resource? Because we didn't want to spend a lot of money, I bought all our furniture at Ikea, protecting all the surfaces with water-resistant paint or plastic fabrics.
