Location: Cubelles, Spain (outside Barcelona)
Type of space: Outdoor Patio
Tell us about your outdoor project and how you enjoy it: I moved from the Midwest to Spain last summer and all I could bring was a set of four Design Within Reach chairs and a DWR table. After an expensive international move I had almost nothing left for a patio budget. Instead of waiting a few more years and buying new furniture, I decided to check out local flea markets and antique stores.
How did you create it? I found a fantastic vintage bamboo patio set at a second hand store and had a set of seat custom made for the group. I wanted to create a garden-like atmosphere around the patio, so I loaded up on inexpensive terra cotta pottery from the local nursery and filled the patio with roses, wild flowers and jasmine. I've thrown in a few colorful planters and three vintage bamboo drink carts along the way.
Recommended store, site, product or resource? The white chairs and silver table were purchased in the United States from Design Within Reach. Most of the terra cotta pots are from Maji Jardin in Cubelles, ES and the custom cushions are from Rosas in Vila Nova I Geltru, ES. A few of the pots are from ebay and all plant stands are from the Barcelona Ikea.
The final image is a "before shot. Additional photos of my progress can be found in my Patio flickr set.
