We thought Ava's Hula party might warm up our readers buried under snow today. Her mom Christina describes the fun: We chose a hula theme for my daughter's first birthday this past summer. Hula decorations are easy to come by - as soon as my friends heard the theme I was swamped with lanterns, palm trees, you name it, from their stashes.
The only things I ended up making were tablecloths. I cut out large fabric flowers and used fusible webbing to iron them to white fabric catering tablecloths from Sam's Club for $6 each. The invitations were a huge hit, they were designed by an Etsy seller for $19 and I printed them myself on my photo printer.
Ava's shirt with the cute hula girl in the One was also from Etsy. I might could have made it myself but I couldn't find a retro hula fabric anywhere! I ended up buying the main part of the cake but putting the doll and doll cake on myself and piping her skirt on. It was nice because the cake still felt homemade but it took no time at all. All the guests were asked to bring a hula skirt, which made for some adorable pictures! Finally, the blow up pool was a huge hit - it made the party so much fun for the kids - $30 at a discount store.
Thanks, Christina! (You can find Christina at Nest Bliss.)
