Summer thinks her baby daughter is numero uno and we think the first birthday party she threw for her is a sure winner: Since Beatrice is turning one, and we think she's a prize-winning baby, I decided to use a #1, first-prize theme. I combined that with polka dots and the colors blue and green to make something fun and summery for the backyard.
I made B her own first prize lapel ribbon, a larger one for the wall, and miniature lapel pin ribbons for all the guests. The cupcakes had #1 flags, and I made blue and green polka dot streamers. The party favors were baby food jars painted blue and green and filled with jelly beans.
My favorite part of the party was the #1 photo backdrop. We hope to repeat it in years to come with numbers 2, 3, etc. as a way to record who came to her party each year. And we printed out each family's photo for their thank you note.
Thanks Summer!

so so cute! Where did you find the pins? I would like to see more pics of this adorable party if you have a flikr or a blog :)
I love the photo booth idea for birthday parties! How did you go about doing this? Would I need a camera with a remote and tri-pod to do this? I would love to hear how people have pulled this off!
Very sweet. :)
Simple and elegant!
so cute! i'm currently planning my little guy's first for august and love all this inspiration!
jessbschutto: we are actually planning a photo booth type thing and i was planning on getting one of the disposable digital cameras they sell. that way no one has to worry about their own expensive camera, and i can just bring it to the store and pick up a disk with the images for sharing/printing. you do have to have friend push the shutter for you, though....
Jess - we had a photobooth at our party, and basically, it was a photographer with her camera, two chairs and a backdrop. She was able to move closer or further away depending on how many people were in the shot (2-4). The back drop didn't take up much space, and no one tripped over a tripod. Now if I was using a family member, maybe a tripod would be better.
Afterwards, we had her edit them into a photo strip. You could also use this Big Huge app:

And yay for another Ikea high chair :) They're the most awesome first birthday high chairs because they go with anything.
Great idea on the number backdrop! That's fantastic. I might have to steal it...
For Wren's first birthday party, I made #1 cookies and plan to make them every year in all the numbers. 2...3...4...
