Summer gave herself plenty of lead time to plan her son's first birthday party and all her efforts paid off with this beautiful affair. Summer tells us more: I started gathering inspiration for Clive's party when he was about 6 months old. I put together a lookbook of sorts - whenever I found something I loved, I bookmarked it and filed in it my favorites. Between Etsy, Party Perfect, and Scissors Paper Cake, I had quite the file folder :)
We decided to repeat what we did with our daughter's 1st birthday and have a color theme. We chose aqua & red for Clive. For decorations we had poms from PomLove, implemented scrapbook paper for more punches of color and really focused on the dessert/cake table to tie it all together.
Since I am a photographer, I designed his invites myself using images I took in our backyard and printed them as double-sided, press-printed cards. Since the backyard was soaked from an earlier rain, we didn't play any yard games like we had planned. The children still had fun playing in the huge backyard while the adults mingled on the deck & indoors.
For food we had a "grown up grub" table & a "child chow" table. For the adults, we served hot slider sandwiches filled with prosciutto, ham, and a delicious pesto - topped with melted mozzarella (yum!), cold sub sandwiches, white cheddar popcorn with pretzels in a vintage enamelware bowl, strawberries & blueberries. For the children we served pigs in a blanket, cracker jacks, fish crackers, and fruit.
The cake table included custom created cupcakes & cookies by Baked Blessings. We also tinted white chocolate to make an aqua coating for pretzel rods. Lastly we filled apothecary jars with various aqua & red candies (m&ms, red hots, Swedish fish, licorice, etc).
At the guestbook table, we had our guests write a birthday message to Clive and drop cards there. In lieu of gifts, we had a box custom made by Wooden Whimsy Designs for guests to make a donation to T.O.U.C.H. - an organization near and dear to our hearts as our firstborn was diagnosed and eventually died from a congential heart defect. We were amazed and humbled by the donations we received - totaling over $400 for an amazing organization - and we didn't end up with more toys that we didn't need :)
