My Party: Dmitri

Athens, GA

Perhaps not every astrological sign lends itself so well to a party theme, but this one sure does. Caroline, tells us more: I found inspiration for Dmitri's 1st Birthday party from his zodiac sign: Cancer. Crabs seemed to be a pertinent choice for a July birthday, and I enjoyed adding beachy elements.I decorated our home with pops of red & orange. I used fish netting to add texture and a beach-feel to tables. Red & orange gerbera daisies mixed with yellow sunflowers added a fresh, happy touch to the event space. I also placed galvanized lanterns (from Ikea - $7) throughout the food & drink tables. Starfish added a clean contrast to the bright reds found throughout the space. I made a red & orange bunting out of scrapbook paper, ribbon, crepe paper, and chipboard letters - it was easy, inexpensive, and adorable!

We served an orange creamsicle cake, reminiscent of summer days of childhood. It was decorated with orange squiggles, and I placed a crab on top, holding a flag with a "1" on it. We also served a light dinner of vegetable shish-kabobs, mini caprese bites, vegetarian quiche, and mixed fruit.

Dmitri wore a hand-made shirt with a crab stitched on it purchased from Etsy. I also made him a birthday hat from a feather boa & scrapbook paper!

We felt so loved by all of our wonderful friends and family who came, and our home was filled with happiness and excitement by all who shared in the event. With nearly 50 guests, our 150 year old farmhouse was full of life! Dmitri loved every minute of the party and the attention, from eating cake to opening presents, he was a very happy birthday boy, the entire day!
