What better theme for a party for a beach and aquarium lover than an aquatic theme. Sarah shares details of her son Gray's lovely second birthday party: We had been kicking around a few ideas for Gray's party but settled on a Life Aquatic type theme after yet another trip to the aquarium. We liked the idea of a submarine on an adventure so my husband J set to work drawing illustrations.
The invite featured a pufferfish and diving helmet to help start us off. We kept the menu simple; crab cakes on mini brioche buns and mini shrimp rolls were the main fare. Our main scores in the decoration department were some vintage nautical maps we found at a local antique center while poking around. We used them as table cloths and they really looked great. The rest of the decorations were mostly shells and driftwood Gray and I scavenged during one of our many trips to a nearby beach.
Oh and the fantastic Japanese paper balloons I saw featured on...Ohdeedoh! I saw them and had to have them. We were able to find some in the shapes of puffer fish, cranes and globes so they worked in perfectly.
Our gift bags had an image of a submarine (drawn by J) iron transfered. We included a sweet bag of Swedish fish, a japanese wind-sox, little submarine soaps (found on Etsy) and a photo book of Gray's second year.
